Fire Adapted Species – Carmen Jimenez, 17
This project is an informative illustrated journal on Fire Adapted Species of Pepperwood Preserve. I am super interested in fire ecology and especially where we live I think we need to learn more about it and utilize it more in order to prevent disastrous wildfires from occurring. After decades of suppression of fires, we are finally learning that our chaparral landscape needs fire along with many of the species located in it. I think we can learn from the native species that are fire adapted to find a way in which to safely incorporate fire in practices such as cultural burns in order to support the local habitat and prevent mass destruction from wildfires.
