Pepperwood’s Learning Landscapes Outings

Our educational outings are perfect for groups to enjoy an intimate, naturalist-led experience at Pepperwood's beautiful preserve

Learning Landscapes is a way for groups of students, colleagues, family members, or friends, to safely enjoy the majestic beauty of our 3200-acre Preserve. These naturalist-led hikes can be catered to groups of all ages. Observe birds, find animal tracks, search for hidden forest creatures, and support Pepperwood’s biodiversity and research projects - all while stretching your legs and getting outside in the fresh air. Learning Landscape participants will explore our forests, meadows, and grasslands within a small group setting with expert guidance and interpretation.

Why Pepperwood?

Our Preserve is privately-owned and visitors are permitted by appointment only. We have protective health measures in place, including sanitizing all facilities before and after your group arrives. As we carefully control access, you won’t encounter others on narrow, crowded trails. Learning Landscapes groups are welcome to enjoy a private picnic at one of our picnic tables - enjoying a stellar view - after your guided hike concludes.

Cost, Details, and Reservations

Pepperwood is a non-profit organization and relies on community members to support our programs. These fee-for-service private guided hikes help support the costs of our staff and facilities.

The cost for a 3-hour guided group outing is $375, or $325 for Friends of Pepperwood

Hikes are available on select days by appointment, generally from 10am-1pm

Groups are welcome to bring your own lunch and stay after your hike to enjoy a picnic. All expeditions require advance reservation and are subject to availability of guides and trail access.  We require a ratio of at least 1 adult guest per every 4 children. Please leave pets at home. Hike themes can be customized based on the needs of your group.

Pay-It-Forward Program: Are you a corporate entity seeking a great team-building experience for your organization? If so, you can enjoy a customized Learning Landscapes outing for your team and help sponsor another one for members of our community who otherwise would not be able to access the program. Your Pay-It Forward donation will fund an outing for local families and is 100% tax-deductible, and your organization will be recognized on our website as a Pay-it-Forward partner.
