Explore Pepperwood through Art and Nature Immersion
At this two-day retreat, you’ll explore the landscapes of Pepperwood through an artist’s perspective at our beautiful hilltop facility, the Dwight Center for Conservation Science, and at our Bechtel House retreat cabin. The weekend starts Saturday morning, and concludes Sunday afternoon, with an optional additional overnight on Friday for those who wish to attend the Discover Nature Lecture on September 14 at 7pm.
We will begin the day with Bay Area artist Monique Risch-Meade learning how to create beautiful silk scarves from local plant dyes using a technique called eco-printing, or Shibori. After a brief introduction, we will head outside to collect materials from Pepperwood as ingredients for making our silk dyes. After the Shibori workshop, we’ll head outside on a natural history hike with Margaret Boeger, a staff naturalist. Along the hike we’ll observe the various flora and fauna that call Pepperwood home, and enjoy a lunch break overlooking the Geysers at Three Tree Hill.
We’ll spend the late afternoon relaxing on the wraparound deck of the Bechtel House, enjoying stunning views and inspecting our silk scarves, which will be finished after processing for several hours. The day concludes with a catered dinner and campfire. The next morning you’ll enjoy a rejuvenating yoga class with stunning views, taught by Pepperwood’s own Sloane Shinn, a certified yoga instructor. A delicious brunch (provided) concludes this retreat. Some of the weekend’s activities will be held in the field and will include hiking 1-3 miles at a slow pace. Bring a tent to sleep under the stars or sleep in the Bechtel House. Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch are included.Back To All Events
