Pepperwood is excited to offer a 10-week certification course, the UC Climate Stewards program. Participants in this course will learn about how climate is impacting both our natural and social systems, strategies for productive climate change discussions and support for implementing community-scale ecosystem and community resilience projects. We will practice effectively communicating climate science, discuss the latest climate science, and participate in field-based activities to deepen our understanding of how fire and water are impacting our community within the context of climate change.
Through a hybrid combination of class discussions, self-paced online learning, and field-based activities, participants will become engaged and empowered to help increase community and ecosystem resilience now and for future generations.
Become a certified Climate Steward and a force for positive proactive change in your community! Participation in the Climate Stewards program at Pepperwood also serves as one pathway to becoming a Pepperwood Steward.
Class meetings will be online via Zoom and in-person at Pepperwood Preserve. The online Canvas learning platform contains the self-paced readings and assignments, as well as our class discussion boards.
This 10-week course meets once a week from January 7 to March 11, 2023:
- 6 Online class sessions on Wednesdays, 5pm-7:30pm; scheduled for 1/11, 1/18, 2/1, 2/15, 2/22, 3/1
- 4 Field class sessions at Pepperwood Preserve on Saturdays, 9am-3pm; scheduled for 1/7, 1/28, 2/11, 3/11
