Meet at the Dwight Center
A pond can be an oasis teeming with life! Join biologist and SSU lecturer, Wendy St. John, to explore the biodiversity found at Pepperwood’s ponds. Wendy will introduce you to common species that we might find in and around the water’s edge, and how to identify them. We will visit the pond in search of aquatic insects, frogs, newts, garter snakes, and turtles. Gain insight into the lives of these incredible creatures, their roles in our ecosystem, and the dramatic cycles of life that unfold around a pond.
You are invited to download the free Aqua Bugs app on your smartphone prior to this event, which you can learn to use during our adventure to help identify aquatic invertebrates. (Search your app store for “Aqua Bugs” by the developer Izaak Walton League of America, Inc.)
This event includes a moderate hike of 1-2 miles at a slow pace over varied and uneven terrain. Please come prepared with clothing and shoes that could get wet and muddy.
COVID Protocols: All events will follow current regional health safety guidelines. Please practice good health hygiene, and physical distancing when possible. If you do not feel well, please do not attend.
