Meet at the Dwight Center
Are you a landowner with the desire to steward forests for fire resilience and to benefit wildlife? In this workshop, you can learn from Pepperwood’s Preserve Manager – Michael Gillogly, and Assistant Preserve Manager – Devyn Friedfel. Pepperwood has been experimenting with forest thinning and prescribed fire to optimize forest health. Come learn how to manage vegetation in different forest types, how to deal with the slash, how wildfire responds to different treatments, what is the best response to fire-killed trees, and what funding sources are available for forest stewardship. We will visit sites throughout the preserve and discuss our techniques and lessons learned following the Tubbs and Kincade fires. We will explore the benefits and challenges of using prescribed fire.
This event will include hiking short distances off trail on uneven and hilly terrain in order to reach demonstration sites. We will also be carpooling to sites on the preserve, we will require masks in the shared vehicles and have the windows down.
Please note: All events will follow current regional health safety guidelines. Please bring a mask – we will require masks to be worn indoors during this event (this includes in the bathrooms), regardless of vaccination status. Masks are not required while outdoors. Please practice good hand washing hygiene, and physical distancing when possible. If you do not feel well, please do not attend.
