Fermentation and Foodies: Workshops on the Mountain
Ever wondered what kvass or kombucha really is? Ever had a desire to craft your own beer? At this weekend workshop held at Pepperwood’s Dwight Center for Conservation Science, we will showcase various types of fermentation processes including beer and kimchee. Overnight camping accommodations are at the stunning Bechtel House cabin, with a wraparound deck and commanding views of the Mayacamas Mountains. The weekend starts early afternoon on Saturday, and concludes Sunday morning. Dinner with locally sourced ingredients, and a catered brunch are included.
The kvass demonstration and tasting is presented by Biotic Beverages, a locally owned company specializing in this unique alternative to kombucha, You’ll taste beet, ginger, and turmeric kvass and learn how it’s made. You’ll also sample Dom Chi ferments (korean style kimchi, sauerkraut, and fermented hot sauces) and Sebastopol organic hard ciders from Ethic Ciders and. Next, we will learn from two experienced home brewers about beer crafting and will taste several home brews. This is sure to be a tasty time for all!
