Accompany Dr. Nick Geist on an exciting field exploration of reptiles and amphibians. Pepperwood has a remarkable diversity of frogs, salamanders, lizards, snakes, and turtles in its various habitats. Learn where they live, what they eat, how they reproduce, how they are faring in the face of urban and agricultural development, and how these animals might be affected by climate change.

Dr. Geist is a professor of biology and paleontology at Sonoma State University where his research interests focus on the reproductive behavior of reptiles. He is currently studying temperature-dependent sex determination, population dynamics, and conservation of western pond turtles. Other areas of active research include the evolution of reproductive strategies of crocodiles, dinosaurs, and birds. Dr. Geist earned his PhD in zoology from Oregon State University.

This class includes a moderate hike of 1-3 miles at a brisk pace.
