Pepperwood in collaboration with the Good Fire Alliance and the Sonoma County Forest Working Group are excited to offer: Remote pile burning for fuels reduction. Join expert land stewards and gain hands-on experience learning:

  • How to create and burn safe, clean burning brush and woody debris piles
  • What precautions are needed for pile burning in a location where water is not plumbed
  • What permits are needed from air quality and fire districts
  • About the potential benefits of forest fuel reduction
  • Ecological restoration opportunities that can be associated with pile burning

Site/Terrain: In order to get to the workshop site participants will need to hike on  varied terrain, including hills and uneven footing. We may also travel in shared vehicles to get closer to the work site, and then hike on foot.

Gear: Dress for field work and being in the weather: sturdy work boots, work clothes (long pants), non-synthetic layers (cotton is great). Bring gloves, eye protection, water, a hat and sunscreen.

Lunch: Bring a bag lunch. Please bring a water bottle.

Weather: Light rain will NOT cancel the event. Participants will receive an email the day before the event if a storm will cancel.

For questions about the details of this event, please contact Devyn Friedfel, Pepperwood’s Fire and Stewardship Manager and California-certified Burn Boss, at dfriedfel@pepperwoodpreserve.org.
