Meet at the Barn
Pepperwood in collaboration with the Good Fire Alliance and the Sonoma County Forest Working Group are excited to offer: Remote Pile Burning for Fuels Reduction. Join expert land stewards and gain hands-on experience learning:
- How to create of safe, clean burning brush and woody debris piles
- What precautions are needed for pile burning in a location where water is not plumbed
- What permits are needed from air quality and fire districts
- About the potential benefits of forest fuel reduction
- Review prescription and look at a Pepperwood’s recent post wildfire fuels reduction project
Site/Terrain: In order to get to the workshop site participants will need to hike 5-10 min down a dirt road, with uneven footing and varied terrain. After the workshop we will need to hike 5-10 min uphill, on the dirt road to get back to our vehicles.
Gear: Dress for field work and being in the weather: work boots, work clothes, non-flammable layers. Bring gloves, eye protection, water, a hat and sunscreen.
Lunch: Bring a bag lunch. Please bring a water bottle.
Weather: Light rain will NOT cancel the event. Participants will receive an email the day before the event if a storm will cancel.
All events will align with the current regional health guidelines. Please bring a mask and be prepared to wear it when indoors (in the bathrooms), and when 6 feet of courtesy distance cannot be maintained from others. In case of cancellation due to weather or health safety measures, refunds will be offered.
