$35 per person ($30 for Friends of Pepperwood)
Ages 10 and up welcome
Meet at the Bechtel House

Do you like spending time in nature? Have you always wanted to be able to artistically capture that particularly beautiful flower or breathtaking view, but just weren’t sure where to start? Maybe you already enjoy drawing in the outdoors, but want to explore new ways to see and appreciate the natural world.

Join instructor Alina Nuebel, artist and certified California Naturalist, for this workshop where we will merge lessons in observational drawing with an inspiring outdoor adventure at Pepperwood. Learn drawing techniques to support nature sketching and nature journaling, as we explore the biological beauty of the preserve in early autumn. In addition to drawing, instruction on using watercolors to add color to your work will be provided. Instruction will be structured around both classroom-style and on-the-trail learning. Please come prepared to walk (up to 1.5 miles over uneven ground), and to potentially spend time sitting on the ground where formal seating is not available. No prior experience required, just enthusiasm and curiosity.

Bring your own art supplies (a suggested supply list will be sent to you upon registration), lunch/snacks, water, sun protection, sturdy walking shoes, and a mask. A portable cushion or sitting pad may also come in handy.

COVID Protocols: All events will follow current regional health safety guidelines. Please practice good health hygiene, and physical distancing when possible. If you do not feel well, please do not attend.

About the Instructor – Alina Nuebel:
Earth’s myriad organisms are a fascinating study for the artist and the biologist. With formal training in both fields, Santa Rosa-based artist Alina Nuebel has a penchant for natural history-informed artistic expression and a particular fascination for California native plants. The majority of Nuebel’s work focuses on natural history illustrations and exploration, illuminating the beautiful and the curious that can be found at every turn in nature. As a teacher, Nuebel blends natural history story-telling with playful, personalized drawing instruction to sharpen students’ drawing skills while simultaneously imparting observational awareness that will expand students’ experience of the outdoors.
