Roll up your sleeves and get in touch with the land the old-fashioned way: by engaging in land stewardship! It’s a great way to demonstrate your love of this place. Here’s what you can expect on volunteer workdays: an incredible community, a moderate hike or walk to the location, potentially uneven terrain, and a great lunch to reward your labor of love. We could be planting native plant plugs, working on erosion controls, building piles to be burned in the winter, or removing invasive plant species – whatever the land needs. Stay tuned to learn the activities for this particular workday.

Why volunteering and stewardship are so important

Environmental stewardship transforms the individual into an agent for positive change within the natural systems that sustain them. Stewardship means tending or caring for the land. Thoughtful and consistent stewardship leads to:

  • increased biodiversity,
  • healthier ecosystems,
  • improved water quality,
  • climate change resilience,
  • enhanced recreational opportunities, and
  • a community united by their love of the land.

Best of all, through community-powered land stewardship, the Earth that sustains us will be better able to support future generations. If you’re longing for a way to give back to the land, Pepperwood is a good place to find the knowledge and practical hands-on experience you need to get started.

On the first Saturday of every month (except holidays), Pepperwood’s stewardship team facilitates these excellent community events. This is the ideal starting point for your stewardship journey. You can strengthen your relationship with this land and your community by attending regularly and learning about the seasonality of stewardship. They’re open to anyone. Please let us know if you have any special considerations or accommodation needs. So go ahead and join us for a volunteer workday, and bring friends! We hope to meet you there.
