Meet at the Dwight Center
Join our experienced environmental education staff for this fun and informative walk designed specifically for families with kids. We will explore Pepperwood’s unique habitats and stop frequently to touch, discover, and learn about the many amazing plants and animals we find. Together we will celebrate the signs of spring, from colorful wildflowers to busy pollinators. After our walk, you are welcome to stay and enjoy your lunch at our picnic tables. This will be an easy walk of no more than 1.5 miles at a slow pace.
This weekend is also the City Nature Challenge! This is a global “bioblitz” or “ecoblitz” using the iNaturalist app. It’s a collaborative effort to get as many people out there documenting as much local nature in their cities as possible. Knowing what species are in our city and where they are helps us study and protect them. Click here to learn more.
Contributing to the City Nature Challenge is an optional part of this Family Walk. If you would like to participate, someone in your household should have an iNaturalist account set up before the event. Not familiar with iNaturalist? That is OK! Our staff can help show you the ropes. We’ll share hands-on tutorials and tips on how to use it. Click here for more helpful tips on getting started with iNaturalist. After our walk, we’ll work on identifying our observations together during lunch time. We will have field guides available to help us in this quest, and you are invited to bring your own if you have them.
Backpacks are welcome, but no strollers please. It will go on in light rain, though heavier rain will cancel. All events will align with the current Sonoma County and state health orders and guidelines for group activities to keep everyone safe during COVID-19. In case of cancellation due to weather or health safety measures, refunds will be offered.Back To All Events
