9am – 3pm
Meet at the Dwight Center
$30 per participant ($25 for members)
Ages 13 and up welcome
If you have ever wondered “what kind of butterfly was that?” this is the day for you! Following a dynamic presentation by legendary lepidopterist Liam O’Brien, we will venture out into the field to find examples from each of the five butterfly families. Liam will demonstrate that the oft-maligned butterfly net is actually a valuable field tool…and not an instrument of death. It will be a catch-and-release day for all creatures involved! The class includes a moderate hike of 1-3 miles at a slow pace. Liam is an illustrator, lepidopterist, conservationist and co-founder of the Green Hairstreak Project. He was a 2014 Bay Nature Local Hero Award recipient for Environmental Education.
