Meet at the Dwight Center
This special evening begins with an informative presentation from NorCal Bats, featuring live bats! Learn about the lives of our local bats, the harmful myths that surround these animals, and the importance of bats in our ecosystem. There will be space for questions and answers at the conclusion of the presentation. All bats shared in this live presentation are certified as non-releasable by the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the U.S. Department of Agriculture—injury precludes them from surviving the wild. The bat is projected, via movie camera, onto the projector screen for all to view.
After the presentation, you are invited to join Pepperwood staff for an optional guided sunset nature walk to look and listen for fascinating bats, moths, owls, scorpions, and more. Get to know these crepuscular creatures through stories and observation. Along the way, we will also enjoy the beauty of the setting sun and twilight sky.
5:30pm – 6:30pm – Presentation in the classroom with NorCal Bats
6:45 – 8:30pm – Guided sunset nature walk with Pepperwood staff
About the Presenter: NorCalBats is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of bats throughout Northern California. In addition, we are committed to public education regarding the environmental benefits of bats, and dispelling fears and myths that lead to the death of roosts and colonies. Located in the Sacramento Valley, trained volunteers care for injured and orphaned bats throughout the valley and surrounding foothills. NorCal Bats is funded through donations and presentations. Help us save the bats of California! Please contribute.
Ease of Access/Hike Level: The presentation portion of this event is held at an ADA accessible location. The event includes an optional slow-paced hike of under 1.5 miles. This includes traveling over varied terrain with inclines and uneven surfaces, in low-light conditions. We may climb a stile/ladder with 5 rungs to cross a fence. Bathrooms and water are available at the event meeting location.
Weather & Cancellations: This event will go on in light rain. However, it could be canceled in the case of heavy storms, unhealthy air quality or other unforeseen circumstances. In the case of cancellation, registrants will be notified via email.
When visiting Pepperwood, please leave pets at home for their wellbeing and that of our wildlife. Though we love dogs, pets are not allowed on the reserve. Thank you.
Please, no smoking at Pepperwood.
