Vlog: Drift Fences & Tiny Critters

Monitoring the Tiny Critters of Pepperwood Preserve

Featuring Julianne Bradbury, Environmental Educator

Here at Pepperwood, we’re monitoring the health of our ecosystems. Wildlife monitoring takes up a big chunk of that task. We have wildlife cameras set up throughout the preserve, mainly documenting the life and times of bigger fauna, there are these low-tech but high-impact coverboards installed in various locations to facilitate our herpetofauna monitoring (like salamanders and newts…). But for the more mobile tiny critters like mice and shrews, we use drift fences. They’re quite ingenious and Julianne describes how it all works in this video.
