We’re thrilled to announce that we are now accepting applications for TeenNat 2021! This 5-week summer program is open to teens ages 15-18 this year. It will be a hybrid of in-person plus one weekly Zoom meeting and independent project work. Our TeenNat 2021 cohort will spend two days per week exploring in the field at Pepperwood with their small group.
This free program at Pepperwood is an opportunity for teens to engage in science and art while exploring a 3,200 acre nature preserve. Participants will gain skills in hiking safety, data collection, using field guides to identify common plants and animals, and navigating using compasses and maps. We will visit multiple unique places across the preserve including ponds, beautiful vistas, oak woodlands, and grasslands. Participants will work with Pepperwood scientists and will meet experts in STEM careers. At the completion of the program, participants will have created a science, art, or research project that will be shared with the community.
Taking part of the TeenNat program provides youth with hands-on field science experience, and helps strengthen their resumes and college applications. Participating teens will also get to work with professional scientists and environmental educators as mentors, and have the opportunity to earn community service hours for school. At the completion of the program, teens earn an REI gift card for outdoor gear. Once you are a TeenNat Alumni, you will gain invitations to special events and volunteer opportunities, as well as ongoing mentorship from Pepperwood staff.
