Pepperwood at International Oak Conference

Pepperwood’s Preserve Ecologist Michelle Halbur presented this week at the 2018 International Oak Society Conference in Davis, CA. This annual event brings together oak experts from around the world who are dedicated to advancing the study and sustainable management of oaks and their ecosystems. Learn more about it here.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Adapting to Climate Change – Oak Landscapes of the Future”. Michelle’s presentation covered what we’re learning about the impacts of wildfire on Pepperwood’s oaks. Prahlad Papper—who first began studying oaks through classes and internships at Pepperwood as a Santa Rosa Junior College student—presented on the white oak research he is conducting as a UC Berkeley PhD student. Pepperwood also hosted a day-long field trip for Conference participants on Sunday.
