Pepperwood wildlife camera studies in the news

Photos from Pepperwood’s motion-activated cameras were featured in a Press Democrat gallery on wildlife at night in our county parks and preserves. The story highlights Pepperwood’s role as a catalyst in building a regional network of wildlife camera networks.

In 2012, Pepperwood became the first site in North America to utilize the Wildlife Picture Index (WPI), a system for scientifically studying wildlife populations that was developed by the Wildlife Conservation Society and the Zoological Society of London. Pepperwood has since managed grids at Audubon Canyon Ranch’s Modini Mayacamas Preserves and at Sonoma Mountain for the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District. We’re currently working on expanding our regional network of WPI sites and coordinating efforts through our Wildlife Observer Network.
