There is a movement underway to raise awareness around Russian River health and encourage collaboration between the many people and organizations working to protect it!

Over 30 community leaders, including our President Dr. Lisa Micheli, are taking to the water for the Headwaters to Ocean Descent of the Russian River, a ten-day, multi-leg kayaking adventure traversing over 100 miles of the River.

The Descent kicked off August 24th, 2016 with a launch gathering hosted by 4th District Sonoma County Supervisor James Gore. Pepperwood’s Dr. Micheli joined representatives from LandPaths, Russian Riverkeeper, Sonoma RCD, Sonoma County Regional Parks, Sonoma County Water Agency, and many others near Lake Mendocino to send off those paddling the first leg of the journey.

Dr. Micheli will kayak the second leg Sept. 7-9th, bringing her expertise as a watershed hydrologist. Pepperwood is a technical adviser for agencies working in the Russian River, and is committed to advancing the health of its headwaters including our own 3,200 acre preserve. Learn about how you can support Pepperwood’s involvement in the Descent.
